FAQ

The Slow Street Smart distinction program lets our supporters, volunteers, and advocates know that a candidate, if elected, will champion Slow Street principles. Those who earn this distinction have shown they’ll back proven safer street design and smarter urban planning.
Multiple candidates in a race can receive this distinction, and like common-sense safe street design, it is non-partisan.
-
No.
A distinction is separate from an endorsement and should not be represented as such. A Slow Street Smart distinction is available to multiple candidates in one race. It is intended to convey that, if elected, this candidate will govern with Slow Street principles in mind.
Awarding a distinction vs an endorsement is up to the discretion of the Friends of Slow Streets' Candidate Endorsement Committee.
Note: A Slow Street Smart distinction is a prerequisite for an endorsement.
-
Friends of Slow Streets has a dedicated endorsement team who reviews the candidate questionnaires.
Candidate Questionnaire and Selection Process
The candidate questionnaire is the foundation for evaluating a candidate’s stance on streets. A candidate’s record and public positions are also considered when evaluating their submitted questionnaire.
The questionnaire inquires about a candidate's positions on various evidence-based public safety policies that enhance urban safety and promote smarter city planning.
Once submitted, the questionnaires, along with candidates' records and public positions, will be reviewed. Deadline are outlined above and candidates who do not submit in time will not be considered. Candidates will be notified via the email address provided from the email address: hey@friendsofslowstreets.com
If you are a candidate seeking to submit a candidate questionnaire, you may fill out our questionnaire here.
